Get Back Pt 2:
Definitely a more optimistic episode after the Twickenham experience of Pt 1…once they move to Apple Studios and are joined by Billy Preston, their spirits are rejuvenated and are back to being a band again
Some of the various moments that struck me (SPOILERS!):
* Hearing the talk about John & Yoko behind their backs at the start of the episode
* Paul saying “And then there were two” when John & George don’t come to the studio…what an eerie foreshadowing
* John & Pauls private meeting being bugged by the filmmakers in the flowerpot
* Paul playing Martha My Dear and Back Seat Of My Car on the piano
* “Morning Paul, Morning Rich” (any time Ringo is referred to as Richie is awesome)
* Peter Seller visits
* Interesting that Yoko is no longer sitting at John’s side when they relocate to Apple Studios for the first few days…(was it addressed at the band meeting to get George to come back?)
* Jamming Going To The Country by Canned Heat
* The mood INSTANTLY changes when Billy Preston joins in…suddenly everyone is on their best behavior
* Once Billy arrives, Paul takes a huge step back and John and George step up on directing the rehearsals
* Paul being excited about having 2 WHOLE TRACKS for the drums so you can hear them in stereo!
* Never seen Ringo ride w his left hand like on the verses of Don’t Let Me Down
* The comical renditions of Help and Please Please Me
* Listening to the playback of Get Back and deciding right there to put it out as a single the following week
* More future Solo stuff jammed on: On The Road To Marrakesh (Jealous Guy) and Teddy Boy
* Jazz Odyssey II: Slight Return
* Seeing Patti Boyd Harrison…poor George, almost lost his spot in the Beatles to Clapton and then loses his wife to him as well
* Paul reminiscing about the footage of them in India (and the monkeys hahahaha)
* Working out the harmonies for the bridge of Two Of Us (which ultimately weren’t used)
* There’s a surprising lack of drugs or alcohol in the sessions given the times
* John playing bass on Let It Be
Undeveloped Songs:
* Bonding
* I Bought A Piano The Other Day
* Woman
* Song Of Love
* Madman
* Too Bad About Sorrow
* Fancy My Chances With You
This has been unreal…simply overwhelming actually….
I wonder if we’ll get the complete rooftop concert in Pt 3? Can’t wait…
