With nearly two months until Alcon's Point Break remake is set to start shooting, the production has hit a big snag, with Gerard Butler dropping out.
The actor signed on in January to star as Bodhi, portrayed by Patrick Swayze in the original Point Break, but a number of factors have lead to his departure. Sources claim that there have been creative differences between the actor and filmmakers, along with scheduling complications that recently arose.
Gerard Butler is slated to shoot Focus Features' London Has Fallen, a sequel to last year's Olympus Has Fallen, this fall, with the studio announcing an October 2015 release date last week. Production on Point Break is slated to begin in late June, which will last several months and take the cast to several international locations. The actor also recently signed on to star in the disaster film Geostorm.
Insiders claim that Alcon is intent on hitting its targeted start date, with the studio set to recast the role in the next few weeks. Ericson Core is directing from a script by Kurt Wimmer.
The original Point Break starred Keanu Reeves as FBI agent Johnny Utah, who tries to get close to Bodhi (Patrick Swayze), a bank robbing surfer. This new version will be set in the world of extreme sports, with Luke Bracey playing Johnny Utah and Ray Winstone portraying his veteran FBI partner, a role that Gary Busey originated.
'The Revenant'; y 'Concussion', con Will Smith.
