He said it after the third and fourth, and now on the eve of the fifth film’s launch – Michael Bay is once again vowing he’s done directing “Transformers” movies.

Speaking with Fandango during press for “Transformers: The Last Knight,” he says this is certainly his final go-around:

“These movies that I’ve done, they are massive movies. They take a lot out of you. I’ve done it enough, and I’ve had a great time doing it. I’m going out with a bang on this one, and I feel like you gotta go out while you’re ahead, you know. I think I’ve had a good run, and I’ve got a lot of other movies I want to do.”

Bay says in the wake of shooting “Pain and Gain” and “13 Hours” in between recent “Transformers” sequels, he’s keen on doing another ‘more adult’ drama again:

“I just read a very bloody hit man movie that was a page turner. That seems like a fun one to do. I love doing 13 Hours, I love doing Pain & Gain – I think it’ll be something more serious and more adult, I guess.”

Bay isn’t the only one jumping ship after this. Mark Wahlberg, appearing on “The Graham Norton Show” this week, said: “It’s the last one so I get my life back.” During the interview he also revealed that he spent five months getting into peak physical shape, only to be stuck with a bad haircut: “The long hair is the worst thing ever. I look like my mum in the ’70s – it’s just really bad.”

Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner revealed the other week to THR that the sixth film in the series, which is targeting a Summer 2019 release, doesn’t have a director locked in yet. There’s also been hints of both Cybertron and Ancient Rome being ideas that might come into play in future installments or spin-offs.
