Dejo aquí el post completo de Mike Portnoy, ex batería de Dream theater y fanático incondicional de los beatles acerca de su visionado de la primera parte del documental Get back:
Was up til 3am last night watching and rewatching Pt 1 and LOSING MY MIND!!!!!!
As I wrote yesterday, it’s absolutely mind boggling that this footage exists and has been unseen for 50 years!!
What a gift!!!
Some random Pt 1 thoughts (SPOILERS!):
* you can’t fault Paul for leading the project…somebody needed to at this point and he obviously had the most enthusiasm (and is effortlessly churning out song after song)
* Watching Paul compose Get Back out of thin air while waiting for John to arrive
* Hearing Beatles versions of solo songs like All Things Must Pass, Gimme Some Truth…wow
* George having his home 8 track recorder brought in because there was only a 4 track recorder on site
* Although it may have been startling seeing Yoko sitting in “the inner circle” at the time, she really was incredibly harmless and hopefully this film will put to rest the silly notion that she “broke up the Beatles” (that being said, Paul’s look when he arrives on the first day and sees her sitting in his seat was priceless
)
* John seems incredibly easy going and happy so far…never butting heads with anybody
* George is very obviously troubled and feeling insecure (constantly having his songs turned down, comparing himself to Clapton, at constant odds with Paul’s leadership)
* Funny seeing Mal Evans transcribing lyrics as they’re being written on the spot (and how happy he is playing the anvil!)
* The constant business meetings in between the writing/playing sessions are such a downer (and THAT is one of the real reasons they broke up - without Brian Epstein to deal with that stuff any longer)
* George Martin’s role was so diminished by this point…gone were the days of just him and the boys…having a few dozen people, cameras, etc etc seems a horrible distraction
* Surprised at Glyn John’s input (at which Paul mocks at one point)
* Dennis O’Dell! Magic Alex! Dick James!
* Great seeing the Lovely Linda taking pics
* LOVED the moment of them writing Let It Be while Yoko & Linda are chatting
* Love watching John & George playing Bass whenever Paul is on the piano
* Love hearing them sing each other’s older songs (Paul singing I’m So Tired, John singing Ob La Di Ob La Da)
* Paul playing Golden Slumbers and telling Ringo he wrote the Carry That Weight section for him to sing
* The funny alternate verse 2 between Paul & John for She Came In Through The Bathroom Window
* The UNBELIEVABLE amount of undeveloped songs and ideas that just come and go (stuff like Commonwealth etc) I hope they put out a Get Back soundtrack with all of these lost gems
* George just getting up and casually walking out (we’ve all read about these things for so many years, but to actually see and hear it!!!
)
* George leaves, Yoko: “Hold My Beer”, sits in George’s seat, Jazz Odyssey ensues!
* The 3 of them huddling at the end after George leaves…what a moment! Like it was their only way to get rid of all the outside distractions and have a moment for JUST THEM…
It’s just scene after scene after scene of PURE GOLD!!! Wow…what a gift
OK jumping into Pt 2 now….
