Earlier this week, director Peter Jackson confirmed that the last Hobbit movie will be called The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies, which hits theaters on December 17. During an appearance at WonderCon last weekend, Richard Armitage, who plays Thorin Oakenshield, revealed that this franchise finale is going to be a nostalgic event.
"It's going to be quite a nostalgic event I think. It's going to be 15 years of seeing Middle Earth on the big screen, the culmination of Peter Jackson's life's work. I think the Battle of the Five Armies is something that I cannot wait to see."
In a separate interview, the actor also teased that this adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel will feature some surprises for longtime fans of the book.
"There's a couple of big surprises. The one thing I'm really looking forward to is seeing the Battle of the Five Armies. I think it will be probably quite a cinematic event."
The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies comes to theaters December 17th, 2014 and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elijah Wood, Evangeline Lilly, Martin Freeman, Luke Evans, Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Orlando Bloom. The film is directed by Peter Jackson.
