There is still very little about the story of Jurassic World that has been confirmed, with the exception of director Colin Trevorrow's revelation in November that the sequel takes place 22 years after the original Jurassic Park. There have been unconfirmed reports that the story takes place on Isla Nublar, the original setting of Jurassic Park, which has been turned into a working amusement park with real dinosaurs, that is visited by millions of people every year. There are some who may be wondering, after the horrific events shown in Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park and Jurassic Park III, why would anyone want to start a real-life dinosaur theme park?
Star Chris Pratt reveals that the answer to that question is the main reason why he wanted to sign on, while comparing his experience with Colin Trevorrow to his time working with James Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy, and revealing new details about his character.
"What I liked about it was it answers the question of like, 'Why would you do that?' How do you suspend disbelief to be like, 'Oh yes, let's make this mistake again!' 'We haven't learned our lesson about dinosaurs, we should definitely live with them and see how that works out!' You know, after THREE tries at it. They answer the question really well through this script; Colin did a great job of writing it, justifying it, and kind of, in his own way, having fun with that. So, anybody who goes in with that question will be really amused the way I was about how they answer that. That was really good and he's got a great vision for the movie. His movie, Safety Not Guaranteed, he did a really good job. It's awesome that Steven Spielberg is taking a chance on this guy because he's got a really clear vision. We talked about it, I sat down with him, and it was kind of like me and James (Gunn). We just kind of started getting excited about this. In the back of my mind, I was like, 'Dude. This is gonna happen! They want YOU to do this movie! I remember him saying, 'They're not gonna tell you this, but we want you to do it.' I was like, 'Really? Ok, oh my God...' So, just like getting really excited about it."
When asked if his character Owen is more like Sam Neill's Dr. Allan Grant or Jeff Goldblum's Dr. Ian Malcolm, Chris Pratt said Owen is a mixture of the two.
"That's a good question. [My character] has got a little bit of the Goldblum cynicism, but also the Sam Neill excitement of the wonder of the biology of it all. It's a combination."
Last night, we reported that the highly-anticipated sequel Jurassic World is gearing up to start production this April in Hawaii, before shooting shifts to Louisiana in June. The actor confirmed that production timeline, while expressing his excitement about working with Bryce Dallas Howard.
"We're gonna start filming in about six weeks or something. [Bryce Dallas Howard] is so cool. She's so great."
With production starting in the next few months, hopefully we'll get more confirmed details about this highly-anticipated sequel, currently set for release on June 12, 2015.
