Video game sales surpass DVD sales in the US
According to various research companies, sales of video games have surpassed those of DVD movies. In 2007, video game sales made $18.85 billion during 2007 with DVD sales estimated to be around $16 billion.
According to the NPD Group's year-end figures, the US retail gaming industry took in $18.85 billion during 2007. That's nearly twice the Motion Picture Association of America and Nielsen EDI's record-setting US box office take of $9.6 billion for the year. The gaming industry even surpassed DVD sales in 2007, reported to be $16 billion by the Digital Entertainment Group and $15.9 billion by Adams Media Research.
Despite the impressive numbers, interactive entertainment still comes up short against the totality of the movie industry. The US box office, DVD sales, and DVD rentals markets combined for more than $33 billion in revenues last year. No data for the gaming rental market was reported.

PS3 'very exotic and tough to develop for', but there is hope.

When VideoGamer.com visited EA's UK HQ for some hands-on with the title, EALA producer Amer Ajami told us that when development began the developer found that its game engine wasn't suited to the PS3.
He said: "We actually announced a PS3 version early on but that was when we were still doing a lot of technical exploration of the architecture. PS3 is a very powerful system but as you guys know it's very exotic and tough to develop for and our engine really at the time wasn't designed for PS3."
However, there is still hope for PS3-owning Red Alert fans. Ajami told us that EALA "might go back and do something with the PS3 later on".
The stronger performance of the PS3 business, caused by cost reductions and brisker hardware and software sales, contributed to a rise in Game division operating profit, to $50.2 million. This compares with an operating loss of $272 million recorded in the same quarter last year.
