Bill Hader has signed on to join the growing cast of director
Steven Spielberg's
The BFG. The actor will play one of the giants in this adaptation of
Roald Dahl's beloved 1982 novel, joining a cast that includes
Mark Rylance and
Ruby Barnhill. Production will take place in Vancouver, but it isn't known when shooting is scheduled to start.
The story centers on a young girl (
Ruby Barnhill) who meets a Big Friendly Giant (
Mark Rylance) and is taken inside their world, known as Giant Country. She teams up with this BFG and the Queen of England to stop a group of mean giants from invading the rest of the planet. No specific details were given for
Bill Hader's character, except that he will play one of the not-so-friendly giants.
Steven Spielberg is directing from an adapted screenplay by
Melissa Mathison (
E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial). The director is also producing alongside
Frank Marshall and
Sam Mercer, with
Kathleen Kennedy,
John Madden and
Michael Siegel serving as executive producers, and
Kristie Macosko Krieger and
Adam Somner co-producing. DreamWorks is co-financing the project with Walden Studios. DreamWorks originally picked up the rights to this novel back in 2010.
