Joss Whedon: It was unfettered joy. A) I thought it was an awesome and ballsy move. B) I love V. Mars and want more of it. And C) It feels like a real game-changer. Like, not since Louis C.K. [selling his comedy special directly online].
ABV: There has been some bellyaching about the idea of going to fans to ask them to donate money to a project that they won't be true investors in.
JW: Mmmhmm.
ABV: Any thoughts on that?
JW: You know, I get that. I understand that it feels not as pure, and that the presence of a studio makes it disingenuous somehow. But people clearly understood what was happening and just wanted to see more of the thing they love. To give them that opportunity doesn't feel wrong. If it was a truly wrong move, I don't think it would have worked. I feel like people would have said, "Hey, that's not fair! That doesn't count!" It costs a lot to see a movie anyway. And it's usually not one you like. That kind of passion, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing. I might not be thinking it through. I'm not exactly business Joe.
ABV: So, what does this mean for Firefly?
JW: That's what everybody wants to know about. Uh, yeah. My fourth feeling when I read about [the Veronica Mars Kickstarter campaign] was a kind of dread. Because I realized the only thing that would be on everybody's mind right now. I've said repeatedly that I would love to make another movie with these guys, and that remains the case. It also remains the case that I'm booked up by Marvel for the next three years, and that I haven't even been able to get Dr. Horrible 2 off the ground because of that. So I don't even entertain the notion of entertaining the notion of doing this, and won't. Couple years from now, when Nathan [Fillion]'s no longer [on] Castle and I'm no longer the Tom Hagen of the Marvel Universe and making a giant movie, we might look and see where the market is then. But right now, it's a complete non-Kickstarter for me.
ABV: I think you would need at least 10 times the budget of what the Veronica Mars folks are asking for for their movie to make a Firefly movie make sense.
JW: Yes. We come to Veronica Mars to hear her talk and hear her father talk. But Firefly/Serenity, it's kind of a different animal — and then there's also the question of what kind of animal it is. Because some people are talking about Firefly episodes. Some people are talking about [a new] Serenity. I think anything we could get off the ground would be appreciated by the fans. But what form it would take is I think under some debate.
For me, [Kickstarter] doesn't just open the floodgates. God knows, things are cheaper now than when we made even Serenity. Good effects can be done in a different manner. Nor is that universe all about spectacle either. But it is a tad more expensive — and a little all-consuming! And of course, there's the other fear: What if it's not that good? I can do something that's not that good — that's fine. But if I do that and it's not that good, I'm going to feel really stupid.
Because I'm too busy to deal with it, I did have a moment of just, "Oh my god! I'm in trouble now." I've always said, "Yes, I'd love to do another one," and it's still true. But I sort of got slapped in the face with it. Or probably will.
ABV: Well at least you have a good excuse to kick the can down the road a bit, since you're, how did you put it, the Tom Hagen of Marvel Universe? That's a great metaphor.
JW: (Laughs) That's how I see it. At some point, [Marvel Studios chief] Kevin Feige is going to turn to me and say, "You're out, Joss."

Estoy volviéndola a ver y disfrutando como la primera vez que la vi hace ya la tira de años. Qué grande.

Sólo hay una manera correcta de verla (esto no es In Treatment). Otra cosa es que la Fox no lo entendiera y en su día emitiese los capítulos sin orden ni concierto

Creo que sale en un par de capítulos. Cuando vi en su día la serie, la Hendricks, que todavía no era conocida, me dejó KO.Supongo que muchos lo sabréis, pero resulta que en un capítulo tenemos a una jovencita Christina Hendricks seduciendo a la tripulación

En The Messenger, el capitulo del compañero de Mal y Zoe en la guerra, que fue el último en rodarse (de hecho la última escena se rodó y musicó sabiendose cancelada)
River esta intentandose comer algo colgado de un palo y Jane comenta "sabrá leer mentes, pero no sabe cómo comerse eso", lo cual es un error de continuidad en el orden establecido ya que ellos no se enteran de que lee mentes hasta Objects in Space, que aquí resulta el último, pero era anterior a The Messenger cuando se rodó sin sabrse cancelada; Joss probablemente vio Objects in Space como un final más adecuado que The Messenger y no se diocuenta, o no le importo, ese pequeño error
No es importante, pero se nota que el orden de los dvd se hizo pensando su unidad como mini serie y no bajo el proyecto original.
Hendricks sale dos veces, y en el segundo, aunque feminas heterosexuales y hombres homosexuales no estaran de acuerdo conmigo, le vemos el culo a la persona equivocada...

Llevo 9 capítulos y es fantástica, qué capacidad para definir y profundizar en los personajes y, a la vez, llevar una trama non-stop, agilísima, con giros, metáforas, diálogos entre subtramas (grandísimo el del ídolo de barro/Biblia corregida) y, sobre todo, la faceta de Whedon como dialoguista.
En el piloto se les llegan a acumular como 4 enemigos distintos. Además el marco es muy atractivo, loosers contrabandistas nómadas, la imaginería visual westerniana mezclada con esa nave.
Se confirman y potencian las virtudes que aprecié en Los Vengadores.
De momento, me han gustado mucho todos los capítulos salvo el quinto (Safe, que tampoco está mal). No creo que el tan alabado Out of Gas sea superior a los otros, arriesga en el montaje a 3 bandas en el tiempo y está muy bien narrado, pero peca de demasiado dramatismo, algo que en todos los demás capítulos está perfectamente equilibrado, siendo el humor una de sus principales virtudes.
En el sexto, el de la Hendricks, tremendo cuando Mal le suelta el rollo de que en su nave todos están unidos y que por eso se han salvado y bla, bla, bla ... y la Hendricks le suelta que a ver si la mata rápido, porque vaya rollazo tópico
Maravilloso.
Hay pegas, por supuesto, en el que era uno de mis favoritos, el cuarto (Shindig), muy al final peca de maniqueísmo con el ricachón, pero es que la relación de Mal con la Geisha es de lo muy mejor de la serie. O ese abuso de gente herida de bala que cura el doctor se hace repetitivo. Pero son minucias ante un producto que se merece el calificativo de joyita.

Tras poner Trek la reseña del Bluray no pude resistirlo y cai en la tentación. Asi que esta semana he estado revisando los capitulos y de postre hoy me he puesto la peli. Esto me ha servido para renovar mi odio eterno a la FOX.
En esta revisión me he dado cuenta de que hay dos capitulos especiales: Objects in space y The message. Digo especiales porque en ambos considero que el protagonista secundario (el mercenario y el soldado) representan a la propia serie. The message siendo el verdadero capitulo final no casaría con una continuación o con la propia película, tiene aire de funeral, de todo se ha acabado. Mientras que Objects, con el mercenario al final en medio del vacio del espacio soltando eso de "pues aqui estamos" da a entender que igual si dejaron alguna puerta abierta a Whedon con la serie, aunque se cerrara despues. Y es que a nadie la funciona como final.
En fin, añoro a la Serenity

La serie se canceló durante el rodaje de The Message y no se hicieron más. Aparte del error de continuidad, Objects nunca fue otra cosa más que un capitulo intermedio, reestructurado ahora como final de la serie a posteriori. Da igual, porque de todas maneras la serie se emitió desordenada...
Y además...
The message, al igual que Trash o Heart of Gold, nunca se emitió en Estados Unidos, siendo Objects in Space el último ene mitirse allí. Fue el adios original aunque en un principio no lo pretendiera.
Echale un vistazo a los comics, todos bajo supervision de Whedon, sobre todo The Sheperds Tale que te cuenta los secretos tras padre Book de forma retroactiva, es decir, desde su muerte hacia atrás, su infancia.
Y además...
