Glass, de M. Night Shyamalan (2019)

Bienvenida sea.

Es un autor acojonante con un par de traspiés. A ello (After Earth está lejísimos de ser un truño).
 
No me imagino el cine sin Protegido ni Bosque (obras maestras las dos). El resto va de acertado (Señales), correcta (Señales), aceptable (Sentido), fallida (After) o bochornosa (Airbender). Joven del agua es la eterna pendiente.
 
Si es cierto eso de que en el momento que hizo 'Unbreakable' lo planteó como una historia en tres actos/películas (al menos creo que lleva diciéndolo desde entonces), entonces confío mucho en este proyecto y hace que me entren unas ganas tremendas.
 
Además, Willis dudo que de un no por respuesta y Samuel L. Jackson, aunque sea un post-it de guión, va a decir que sí osea que...

Patton Oswalt Pitches ‘Unbreakable 2’, Shyamalan Responds
Patton Oswalt lays out his ideas to expand ‘Unbreakable’ into a trilogy, and M. Night Shyamalan himself responds.

M. Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable celebrates its 15th anniversary later this year. While the director certainly has lost some fans in that time, after a string of bombs such as The Happening, The Last Airbender and After Earth, one actor in particular wants to turn Unbreakable into a trilogy, with M. Night Shyamalan back at the helm. Patton Oswalt revealed to Screen Junkies, that, while he's against making sequels just because a movie is successful, he thinks Unbreakable deserves a tirlogy.

"As much as I'm philosophically against just spitting out sequels because something is successful, I do firmly believe that M. Night Shyamalan's film Unbreakable not only deserves a sequel, it deserves a trilogy."

The actor then broke down his elaborate and detailed plan for two more sequels for Unbreakable.

"So, there are other Unbreakables in the world, and the second movie should be Bruce Willis embracing his hero status, starting to spread the gospel a little bit, but at the end of the second one, they should do the same thing as Empire. Things are not great. Either his kid gets hurt, who's not unbreakable, or his wife leaves him or he gets one of these young unbreakables killed. Then in the third movie, keep in mind, the last frame of Unbreakable is Sam Jackson's character smiling maniacally, going, 'I know what I am now.' And it says Elijah Price is in an institute for the criminally insane. Now, he's been sitting there the whole time watching what he has wrought. He's watching Bruce Willis' character, David Dunn, he knows what's going on. If you're studying how to build bombs, how to derail trains, how to blow up dams, you've met other super villain type people in the world. You have a network now, of people who can get you out, and so the third movie is him getting out. The first thing Elijah would do is make David Dunn seem like a villain, and Bruce Willis' character has to now fight to regain what's actually good about himself and put down Elijah once and for all. And the other thing he would do in the third movie, and this is one element that was missing from Unbreakable, maybe they cut it for time or whatever. In the movie, there's a line where Sam Jackson says 'My blood lacks a protein where I can't heal or form strong bones.' It would be interesting if, in the third movie, one of Sam Jackson's plans is to capture David Dunn, and get a blood transfusion and become unbreakable himself, with his evil genius mind."

Patton Oswalt added that he would like to see M. Night Shyamalan back to direct both of these sequels and, as it turns out, the director himself watched Patton Oswalt's video, revealing on his Twitter page that he may even fly Patton Oswalt out to his home city of Philadelphia to help him "crack" the sequel. Qué gran error. Lo interesante y original de "El protegido" era precisamente presentar el origen de un superhéroe y omitir el resto de la historia, que ya nos la sabíamos por otros películas. Hoy, además, estamos sobresaturados del tema y lo de retomar la historia con un Willis (por mucho rollo crepuscular que eso supondría y demás mierdas) como que da mucha pereza.

Esperemos que la resurrección en taquilla de Shyamalan no sea como la de Ridley en los 90 con "Thelma y Louise", que nos trajo una década de lo peor que ha hecho.
 
Después de leerle en un par de entrevistas creía que el hombre había espabilado, que había asumido que no era el cruce perfecto entre Hitchcock y Spielberg al que había aspirado a ser, que lo suyo eran los thrillers minimalistas y los bajos presupuestos, que ya no quería trabajar con gente que lleva treinta años en el negocio (como James Newton Howard) y que quería apostar por gente joven que empieza en el sector. Pero no, veo que su gran ego sigue intacto para su perjuicio y todavía espera que las majors le suelten pasta y le respeten como artista.

Huele a Manoj muérete a distancia.
 
El ego lo tendrá siempre. Si en la joven del agua se daba a si mismo el papel de salvador del mundo.

Y con Universal podría tener un nuevo idilio.
 
Hombre, tampoco veo mal si quiere diversificarse un poco, y que entre thrillers minimalistas y de bajo presupuesto acometa algo mayor de vez en cuando. Al fin y al cabo parece llevar con la idea de esta secuela muchos años en su cabeza. A mí todo esto me da mucha confianza, en principio.
 
Un tipo que tiene todo obras cumbre y que patina con Airbender tiene algún problema?

No, señores. Nunca se ha ido. Y con que Múltiple (que dicen es un acontecimiento) sea la mitad de buena que La Visita, me conformo.

Y yo digo sí a las secuelas. Sobre todo si vienen de la mano de los mismos.
