NEC anuncia chip para lector Blu-ray
NEC Electronics Corp has commercialized the "EMMA 3P" SoC for Blu-ray Disc playback and begun sample shipments.
The EMMA 3P integrates functions to replay video and audio data and to display still images and graphics recorded on Blu-ray Discs into a single chip. It also supports dual-screen playback of video data in the H.264/AVC, VC-1 and MPEG2/1 formats, for example.
Playback of audio data in the Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD formats is available. The SoC is planned to support DivX in the future.
Its CPU cores use a 655MIPS 64-bit VR5500 and MIPS Technologies Inc's 457MIPS 32-bit CPU. The SoC's total processing performance surpasses 1100MIPS, NEC Electronics said. In addition, it features a built-in accelerator for graphics processing.
Its peripheral features include an HDMI interface and an Ethernet controller for downloading additional content and accessing game and other networks. The power supply voltage is 3.3V at the I/O part, 1.8V at the DDR2 interface and 1.0V at internal circuits.
The package is 797-pin plastic BGA. Sample shipments started July 11, 2008. The sample is priced at ¥12,000 (? US$113). Volume production will begin at 300,000 units per month in July 2008.
