Seven Thoughts on Disney Acquiring Lucasfilm from Today's Conference Call
This could theoretically open the door to the original, un-altered versions of the Original Star Wars Trilogy becoming available legally and in HD. Then again, it could result in them being just as buried as original cuts of Disney titles.
Seven (Make that eight and counting) things after listening to their conference call announcement just now:
1) Disney now owns all Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and ILM (the company that once owned Pixar), as well as the trademark for "Android" or "Droid". Disney will now own all intellectual property rights with some distribution and licensing exceptions based on existing deals, much like how Universal still has the Marvel theme park license for a while yet.
2) Much was made of Disney's global licensed product and distribution reach making better use of LucasFilm licenses, with all emphasis on the $4.05 billion paid being relative to the value of the Star Wars franchise. For example, this would imply that any Star Wars (and Indiana Jones?) licensed comic books will now go under Marvel once the current Star Wars/Dark Horse contract ends, and video games would go through Disney Interactive.
UPDATE 1:: Bob Iger: "We're likely to focus more on social and mobile than we are on console. We'll look opportunistically at console, most likely in licensing rather than publishing, but we think that given the nature of these characters and how well known they are, and the storytelling, that they lend themselves quite nicely, as they've already demonstrated to the other platforms"
UPDATE 3:: The Star Wars 1313 game is staying on track, per a LucasArts statement.
3) Disney plans to release a new Star Wars movie every 2-3 years starting in 2015. All of them will be in 3D.
4) Star Wars Episodes 7, 8, and 9 will be a trilogy. The treatment is done, is in "early stage development", and the movies are to be released every other year.
5) ILM will remain a studio-agnostic gun for hire. Disney does not want to change anything about how they operate.
6) Fox retains ownership and distribution of all existing Star Wars movies (until that contract expires...?). All future films will be distributed solely by Disney, unlike Paramount retaining partial distribution rights when Marvel was acquired. No mention was made of who now owns the Star Wars Holiday Special.
7) They made it very clear that the Indiana Jones IP was not factored into their valuation of LucasFilm, only Star Wars and Star Wars-related IP. They made an oblique reference to "existing commitments" (i.e., Paramount's distribution and ownership of the existing movies and Young Indy).
8) This may be reaching, but they made repeated reference to the broader reach of the Disney content family in general, and toward the end someone asked about the Disney Faeries and other "girl-oriented" IP expansions and how they'd handle that. Disney sidestepped it a bit, but acknowledged they have many plans in this area for sure.
UPDATE 2:: Bob Iger: "We love the fact that this will take its place in our live-action strategy as a known and loved brand. We really like Star Wars’ potential on TV, and Disney XD would be a great home for that."
This means that the long-rumored live-action Star Wars TV series is just the tip of the iceberg. No word on how Clone Wars (distributed by Warner Bros on home video) falls into any of this.
All in all, and call it controversial, but I firmly believe this is the best possible thing to happen to Star Wars in a long, long time.
I'm re-listening to my recording of the call and will update as necessary with corrections and additions.

La séptima parte de Star Wars serán tres horas de plano fijo de Jar Jar Binks contando chistes, dándose golpes y haciendo el subnormal mientras se dirige al espectador rompiendo la cuarta pared. Se rumorea el añadir cadenas de hierro a las butacas para amarrar a los espectadores y que puedan "gozar" de la experiencia como dios manda.

Todo es de Disney, Indy incluido. Lo que tenía Lucasfilm eran acuerdos de distribución con Fox para Star Wars y con Paramount para Indy, que se respetarán hasta su conclusión.

Pensemos en quien tienen en plantilla Disney y quien les sale rentable y tenemos a Burton con Alicia o Whedon con Vengadores. Y según quien para una nueva de SW me hace aplaudir las orejas (de Mickey) o me hace temblar las canillas (de Donald).
En cuanto a transacciones económicas y demás... pues como que me da igual. Lucas va a estar ahí, ya sea físicamente opinando o con burofaxes a la Kennedy. Así que....

Erase una vez que se era un señor que creó un universo particular, como el patio de mi casa.
Soñó que en ese mundo fantástico había cabida para un universo paralelo, cual Kingdom Hearts. Mientras soñaba (y contaba billetes con la cara de Mickey Mouse) ideó un plan para la siguiente entrega.
Darth Vader debía evolucionar. Debía cambiar, adaptarse a los nuevos tiempos. Ser amigo de los niños, sea quien fuese.
Los soldados de asalto no podían causar miedo. Tenían que ser amigables. Debían formar parte del lema de la empresa: hazlo con una sonrisa. Ahora iban a ser aptos para todos los públicos. Vader accedió.
Pero Lucas seguía teniendo miedo. Miedo de que Disney acabase infantilizando demasiado su juguete. Así que prefirió guardarse un as en la manga, algo más irónico, más divertido...
No se dio cuenta que Henson and co. también pertenece a Disney. El reverso tenebroso del lado oscuro empezó a gestar una nueva criatura. Un nuevo Lord que diera ansias de poder a los Sith. De ahí surgió ¡Darth Donald!.
Darth Donald es tenebroso, más que Vader y Maul juntos: Darth Donald tiene mala hostia, se cabrea con facilidad. Nunca le deis una espada laser a un pato furioso. Ante la situación el escuadrón Mickey decidió ponerse manos a la obra. Había que actuar con rapidez. La galaxia estaba en peligro.
Obi-Wan Mickey estaba decidido. Debía luchar. Debía enfrentarse a su destino... debía enfrentarse a Donald.
Pero Vader seguía siendo Vader. Y eso deparó la batalla final. Vader decidió luchar contra Mickey pues no podía permitir que esa risa nerviosa, neurótica, esquizofrénica e insufrible dominara el mundo.
No cabe duda que Vader perdió. Ante tal situación escapó en su Tie Matter hacia un planeta lejano, muy lejano preparando su regreso estelar para una secuela...
Las tornas habían cambiado. Vader decidió operarse para pasar desapercibido haciéndose pasar por el primo tonto de Jar jar. Se hizo llamar Goofy y Donald fue relegado a un cargo inferior como un soldado de asalto. ¿Quien puede luchar con un pato que amenaza con los puños? Mickey Kennobi y Minnie Leia estaban listos para la tormenta que se avecinaba.
Y así es como termina el ep. VII.
