Got mine today. Tried Kodi 15.1 and wasn't happy with the performance, so switched to 15.2 RC3 (on the new Fire TV and my old Fire TV). 15.2 gave slightly better performance in all aspects, so I'm sticking with that for now.
Here's what I've tested:
Remote:
I don't like it. It drops connection to do "updates" to itself, doesn't seem as responsive and the buttons are harder to press (maybe it just needs to be broken in).
CPU/Memory usage.
The new FTV comes with a new OS. My old FTV is still on the old OS This probably has something to do with the below figures:
Old FTV: Sitting idle in Kodi, cpu usage bounces up and down from 0-10% with occasional spikes to 20%. Memory usage is at 33%.
New FTV: Idle cpu usage bounces up and down from 0-30% with occasional spikes to 60%. Memory usage is at 66%.
720p hi10p content:
Old FTV: 99% there - only very rare frame drops
New FTV: Runs perfect - no problems
1080p .264 hi10p content:
Old FTV: plays barely, not watchable.
New FTV: 95% there. Though even when Kodi reports no frame drops/skips, it still appears to be juddery.
1080p HEVC main 10 content:
Old FTV: plays better than .264 hi10p for some reason, but not smooth enough to watch.
New FTV: plays perfectly
4k 60fps .264 content -

Old FTV: barely plays, not watchable
New FTV: a little better, still not watchable.
4k 24fps .264 content -

(the file name says it's 96fps, but all my utilities say it's 24fps)
Old FTV: barely plays, not watchable
New FTV: About 85% there. Just need a bit more power..
4k HEVC content - 140803_4k_hm130_4s_sao_dbf_qp27.265
Old FTV: slideshow
New FTV: Seems to play okay, but is sped up (plays at 2x-4x speed). I need to find another 4k hevc sample..
Annoying delay when rewinding 6 seconds back?
When I press back, it goes back 10 seconds. It takes about 1.5 seconds to do it. The new and old FTV are the same in this respect.
24fps compatibility? Probably not. I watched a few things with panning scenes and I could see some judder. I don't know how to definitively test for 24fps compatibility though..
