Mark Gatiss may beat me up, but there is an idea for this one-off special that’s such a good idea. It’s a fantastic, really mouth-watering idea. But I really don’t know when we are going to get to do it.

Sherlock Will Return At Christmas, 2015. Martin Freeman expects a one-off special

Two years separated the second and third seasons of the BBC's Sherlock, and it looks as if the same amount of time will have elapsed before we get the resolution to His Last Vow's tantalising cliffhanger. Speaking to The Telegraph as he prepares to take the stage as Richard III, Martin Freeman revealed that filming is pencilled in early next year for a one-off special at Christmas, 2015.

"It looks pretty likely," Freeman explains, breaking the silence of the tight-lipped BBC. "I’m speaking off-message here - if this was New Labour I’d get fired - [but] a Christmas special is what I understand.” His own and Benedict Cumberbatch's busy schedules mean a full series (which in Sherlock terms has hitherto meant three movie-length episodes) is unlikely.

Freeman also confirms that his real-life other half, Amanda Abbington, will be returning "for the forseeable future" as Mary Morstan, the new Mrs Watson. To avoid spoilers we'll omit exactly what he mused her ongoing story might entail. "We play fast and loose with the original stories," is the vaguer version, "but we generally follow the trajectory of what Conan Doyle did..."

For various reasons (to do with the Season Three cliffhanger, not Mary), we might take a guess that the new episode will be some sort of version of the novel The Valley Of Fear. Or since it's Christmas maybe it'll be The Blue Carbuncle.

Given that pretty much anything goes in Sherlock, via the fiendish brains of writers and showrunners Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, all bets are off. We've suggested some house-style punning titles below, so vote for what you'd most like to see, or suggest your own in the comments. We'll bring you more on Sherlock once there's something official. Ganazas. Lo del valle del miedo era logico dado el final de la tercera y que es la ultima novela por adaptar.
 
Vaya líos. Para principios del año que viene, si todo va bien, Cumberbach estará rodando en Belfast la nueva película de James Gray (Lost city of Z) junto a Pattinson, tras terminar en Colombia. A lo mejor tras terminar este rodaje en Belfast hacen el especial de Sherlock.

"Sherlock," the hit BBC One drama produced by Hartswood Films, will return to screens for a Special, followed by a series of three new episodes.

The last series saw Sherlock's life change a lot - he returned from the dead, his best friend John Watson married Mary Morstan and he met his match in Charles Augustus Magnussen. After the briefest of exiles, Sherlock came back only to face one of his biggest mysteries yet. Why is Moriarty's face being broadcast on every television in the land?

Speaking about the return of the series, co-creator, writer and executive producer Steven Moffat says: "A special, plus a new series of three episodes - it's a record-breaking run! Of course, it's far too early to say what's coming, but we're reasonably confident that the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you'd expect..."

Co-creator, writer and executive producer Mark Gatiss, adds: "Series Four! At last! It's always special to return to Sherlock but this time it's even more special as we're doing... a Special! Not only THAT, we'll then be shooting three more episodes which will take Sherlock and John Watson into deeper and darker water than ever before. The whole Sherlock team are terrifically excited to return for four new adventures. The Game is on - again!"

Sue Vertue, Executive Producer, Hartswood Films says: "It's taken a little while to get the dates sorted as none of the boys are exactly sitting back twiddling their thumbs but there was unanimous goodwill to make this work, so we're thrilled that 221b is going to be inhabited again."

Charlotte Moore, Controller of BBC One, says: "It's a very good day in the life of a BBC One Controller when you can announce Sherlock will return for a special plus a new three-part series. Massive thanks to Sue Vertue and Hartswood Films for pulling this off, it's no mean feat pinning down some of this country's most brilliant and in-demand actors and writers."

Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama, says: "Steven and Mark are ready to unleash the most shocking and surprising series of Sherlock yet. The only thing to expect is the unexpected..."

"Sherlock" is written and created by Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, and inspired by the works of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. "Sherlock" is produced by Sue Vertue and the executive producers are Beryl Vertue, Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat for Hartswood Films, Bethan Jones for BBC Cymru Wales and Rebecca Eaton for Masterpiece.

Shooting on the special will begin in January 2015, with the series shooting later next year.

Es decir, que la temporada se va para el 2016, como se esperaba. A ver si mantienen el nivel.

Entonces, especial de Navidad en 2015 y temporada en 2016 ¿no?

¿Y Moffat va a poder? si ya con las temporadas partidas de Who iban en ella y Sherlock con el tiempo pegado al culo... Espero que no delegue en Thompson.

Ojito que este año tenemos 13 y no 14 de Who... Nos escatiman episodio. Lo mismo le da tiempo... :cuniao
 
Esa manía a Thompson no esta un poco injustificada? De acuerdo que the blind banker es el mas flojo, pero tb fue el artífice de reichenbach y the sign of three
 
- Con estas pausas, se está produciendo algo de lo más interesante. Los actores maduran y envejecen ello los hace más parecidos a sus personajes. Al igual que en los relatos de Conan Doyle, ni el Cumberbatch ni el Freeman de 2015-2016 serán los mismos de 2010. En la tercera temporada los treintañeros del principio se nos habrán hecho más grandes. Cumberbtach estrenando la cuarentena y Freeman ya más cerca de los ciencuenta que de los cuarenta. No es mala opción: serie y actores creciendo juntos, como en la vida real. :yes
 
De este modo también tienen tiempo de pensar más los guiones, que eso también se agradece. Y estoy con Dussander, mejor verlo como tres películas cada 2 años :juas

Si y no. Sign esta tambien acreditado a Moffat y Gattis, y dudo que fuera el artifice de Reichenbach.
 
Reichenbach no me entusiasma, y lo que más me gusta de Sign of three es, dicho por ellos, obra de Moffat (el discurso) o de Gatiss (el encadenado de misterios). Pero vamos, si a Thompson le tengo manía es más por Who que por Sherlock.
 
Blind Banker no me parece malo, todo lo contrario, pero si es que menos sabe justificar su duración. Reichenbach es una obra maestra, pero es imposible pensar que solo sea obra de un escritor de plantilla siendo el finale, aunque si está acreditado en soledada será por algo, y por otro lado, aunque es mejor, bastantes de los problemas que ocurren en Banker ocurren en Baskerville, escrito por Da Gat. De Who solo ha escrito un episodio regular, y es difícil en una producción tan compleja echarle la culpa al guionista. Journey está bien escrita, pero no utilizaron los medios que permitieran algo más interesante y más complejo. Se esperaba más del interior de al Tardis, pero no creo que el mal fuera Thompson precisamente.

Así que no, bromas aparte, no creo que sea la peste. Pero tambien es verdad que será mala suerte o incompetencia personal, ha firmado cosas en Who y Sherlock que está entre lo más flojo de ambas.
 
De Dr. Who no he visto nada, así que no opino. Sea como sea, alguien que tiene en su currículum dos episodios tan buenos como los dos mencionados no debe ser menospreciado, y gran parte de los problemas de the blind baker se deben a que alargaron los capítulos de la hora inicial a la 1h y 30m. El primero de hecho también tiene un caso estirado, pero se aguanta mejor debido a que también presentan personajes y a que Moffat es muy hacha.

A parte de lo mencionado de Hounds, Gatiss también ha escrito el que es para mi uno de los capítulos más flojos de la serie: The Empty Hearse.
 
The Empty Hearse es una obra de arte. De hecho, en cuanto a calidad conjunta, la tercera es la mejor, carece de episodio flojo o menor. Son todos soberbios, aunque quizás ningúno alcanze las cotas de Belgravia y Reichenbach, aunque el tercero anda por ahí.

De acuerdo en que la tercera es la mas redonda en cuanto a calidad general. ¿En que sentido dices que TEH es una obra de arte?
 
En que es una obra maestra, una joya, un episodio soberbio... No es la afirmación más críptica que haya hecho jamás. :garrulo
