Last night, during the college football national championship game, Marvel finally unveiled the second full-length trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron, which offers plenty of new footage that wasn't shown in the first trailer from last October. One of the biggest mysteries in this new trailer is the brief appearance of a woman disrobing in a cave, who hasn't been shown before in any of the previous footage, along with another woman who is seen behind Thor (Chris Hemsworth) as he is shocked by what appears to be some sort of electric spark. Who might these women be? There are a few theories floating around the web already, so let's break them down right here.
Who Is The Woman In the Cave?
1 Wakandan Dora Miljae
If this theory is true, it would be an obvious reference to the upcoming Phase Three adventure Black Panther starring Chadwick Boseman, who will make his first appearance in next year's Captain America: Civil War. In the Marvel comic books, the Dora Miljae are a group of female warriors who serve as the personal bodyguards for T'challa. They are some of the most formidable fighters in the Marvel comic universe, destroying Doombots and even holding their own against Black Widow. Kevin Feige has previously teased that Black Panther's homeland of Wakanda will be featured in Avengers: Age of Ultron, leading many to speculate that this mysterious character is actually in a vibranium cave, which contains the metal that Captain America's shield is made of.
2 Shuri
This woman could also very well be Shuri, the sister of T'challa, since it has been noted that the mysterious character's headgear appears to have a feline shape. In the comics, Shuri eventually takes over the Black Panther mantle from her brother T'challa, so it's certainly possible that Marvel could be introducing her here, to set up possible future appearances in Phase Three, Phase Four and beyond. It's also worth noting that Andy Serkis makes another brief appearance in the trailer, and it is speculated that he is playing Ulysses S. Claw, who has a history with the Wakandans in the comics after murdering T'challa and Suri's father. It's possible that Shuri tracking down her father's murderer could tie into Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther
3 Death
The Marvel Comics character Death has already been briefly teased in Marvel's The Avengers, when Thanos is told that challenging the Avengers would be to court Death, but there isn't much to support this theory. A shot from the first trailer reveals Thor in what appears to be the same cave as this mystery woman, with some speculating that Thor has a showdown with Death where he meets his demise. Of course, the main problem with this theory is that Marvel has already announced Thor: Ragnarok for 2017, but it's also worth noting that characters such as Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) have "died" in previous Marvel movies, only to be brought back to life. Could this happen with Thor as well?
Who Is The Woman Attacking Thor?
1 Moondragon
The new trailer is cut together to make it look like one of Ultron's red electronic beams strikes Thor in a completely different shot, but, if you look closely, a woman is seen behind Thor, who may be possible for this attack, especially considering Thor is hit with blue electronic beams. One theory is that this woman is Moondragon, who, in the comics, is a powerful telepath and martial artist, who has been connected to Thor and the Mad Titan himself, Thanos.
2 Hela
Hela is an Asgradian character who is the daughter of a previous version of Loki, who rules the land of the dead in Thor's homeland of Asgrad. However, while she is a major character in the comics, this is the first we're seeing of this mysterious woman, who seems to be in too minor of a role for such an important character. Since it's possible that the other mystery woman may be Death, we should also consider that the Asgardian version of Death, Hela, may be present as well.
3 Enchantress
Enchantress has both been a love interest and enemy to Thor in the comics, and the mystery woman's costume and possible ability to attack with bolts of electricity could mean that she is Enchantress. However, the character is typically portrayed as a blonde woman in the comics, but it's possible that Marvel could be changing her appearance just to throw fans off. It's possible that this scene only serves as an introduction to the character, with a larger arc to follow in the ever expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe, but we don't know that for sure.
What do you think about all of these theories? Who do you think these mysterious women are in Avengers: Age of Ultron? We likely won't know any more for sure until this highly-anticipated sequel hits theaters on May 1, but you can chime in with your own theories below.
Don Cheadle made an appearance on NBC's Late Night with Seth Meyers last night, to promote the new season of his hit Showtime series House of Lies. During his interview with Seth Meyers, the actor briefly touched on his role in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and his friendship with Robert Downey Jr. that was formed after Iron Man 2. Here's what he had to say below.
"After Iron Man 2, Robert and I struck up a friendship and we're both very busy, but we get to see each other time and again, and now this new Avengers crew, some of them I know from other things, but getting to do these movies and traveling around the world, it doesn't suck. It's a lot of fun."
We haven't heard much about Rhodey's role in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but he was seen during the party scene at Avengers Tower, which was showcased in the first trailer that debuted in October. The actor confirmed his involvement in Avengers: Age of Ultron back in December 2013, after portraying Rhodey in both Iron Man 2 and Iron Man 3. There have been rumors that he becomes part of the new Avengers team at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron, but, of course that has not been confirmed, and we don't know if his character will use the Iron Patriot or War Machine armor in the sequel. At any rate, take a look at the actor's comments from Late Night with Seth Meyers in the video player below.
While hardcore Marvel fans have long waited to see the Grey Savage Hulk make his way into a movie, we have to take this next bit of news with a grain of salt. Sure, it's confirmed that Funko will be releasing a Hot Topic exclusive Pop! Vinyl figure for Grey Savage Hulk as part of their Avengers: Age of Ultron toy series. But that doesn't necessarily mean he will be unleashed in the sequel.
IGN first discovered the Grey Savage Hulk toy image, which comes complete with stoner-like red eyes. Does this mean he is under the control of Scarlett Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) in director Joss Whedon's follow-up? A rumor has been circulating that Scarlett Witch does know how to control the big green goliath, and this is the reason behind the epic Hulk vs Hulkbuster scene. But based on the recent trailers, Mark Ruffalo's alter ego is still green when this key action scene happens.
In the past, we've seen plenty of Marvel characters introduced for various movie action figure lines that weren't actually included in the movie itself. The most recent example of this is when a Red Skull figure was released for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. As we all know now, that villain never appeared in the sequel. This is likely just a variant used to intice people to enter Hot Topic, especially older collectors who don't usually frequent the teen-friendly mall outlet.
Hulk was introduced as Grey in his original Marvel Comics debut. He has since transformed into this version numerous times over the years. Most fans remember Grey Hulk from his time spent as a Las Vegas enforcer known as Joe Fixit. What do you think? Will Joe Fixit make an appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron? Or is this just a cool toy to get Marvel fans extra excited? Take a look:
Vaya. Estreno el 1 de mayo.
Earlier today, Schmoes Know's sources revealed that Andy Serkis' character in Avengers: Age of Ultron is Ulysses Klaw, which had been rumored ever since the first trailer surfaced. The site also teased that they had another scoop dropping today, which, as it turns out, reveals that a female character from the Marvel comics will make an appearance in this Phase Two sequel. Be warned, there may be potential SPOILERS below, so read on at your own risk.
You may recall that, back in July, Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon revealed that there are four main female characters in the sequel. We already know about Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), but fans were wondering about the identity of the fourth female character. According to Schmoes Know, that character is Mantis.
Marvel is reportedly trying to find a way to link their cosmic universe, showcased in last year's Guardians of the Galaxy, with their earthbound heroes The Avengers. This is reportedly where Mantis comes in since, in the comics, she has ties to Scarlet Witch, her brother Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Vision (Paul Bettany) and even the Guardians of the Galaxy themselves and Thanos (Josh Brolin). Here's what the site's source had to say.
"This would seem to make a lot of sense as she 1) has direct ties to Thanos, 2) has even stronger ties to Vision, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch, 3) has a personal vendetta in the comics against Klaw and, most importantly 4) has been a prominent member of both The Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy."
The source claims that Marvel is trying to bring both of these universes together to set up Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 and Avengers: Infinity War Part 2. We don't know how significant a role Mantis may play in Avengers: Age of Ultron, or who may be playing her, but it is worth noting that the movie is currently undergoing reshoots at Pinewood Studios in London right now, so perhaps they're filming the Mantis scenes as we speak. What do you think about Mantis' inclusion in Avengers: Age of Ultron? Chime in with your thoughts below.
Ever since the first trailer debuted for Marvel's sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron, many fans believed that Andy Serkis is playing Ulysses Klaw, even though his character's identity has never confirmed by the studio. Yesterday, a slew of official photos were released from the superhero adventure, one of which featured Andy Serkis. Stitch Kingdom has now received those same images with official captions from Disney, which indeed confirms that Andy Serkis is in fact playing Ulyssees Klaw.
A report from January revealed that this character is actually an "amalgamation" of both Ulysses Klaw and his father from the comic books, Fritz Klaue. Fritz has been connected to Baron Von Strucker, who is played by Thomas Kretschmann in the Phase Two sequel. While Fritz may have an appearance in Avengers: Age of Ultron, an insider claims that many of his "attributes" will be given to Andy Serkis' Ulysses Klaw. Unfortunately, we don't know how Klaw fits into the story quite yet, but there is speculation that his presence could help set up Marvel's Black Panther movie, arriving in 2017.
Klaw often tangled with T'challa in the Marvel comics, and the second trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron offered a number of clues that the movie will tie into Black Panther. It's possible that Klaw's presence could also lead into the first Phase Three movie Captain America: Civil War, since Chadwick Boseman's T'challa has already been confirmed to appear in that adventure. Now that the Andy Serkis/Ulysses Klaw mystery has been officially put to rest, we'll have to wait and see how his presence is handled in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which hits theaters on May 1.
